I've been collaborating with my friend Bill on some paintings. He has a quiet, iconographic style that uses color washes and symbolic graphics, whereas I have a loud, abstract expressionist style that uses biological- and cosmological-derived imagery.

The two styles have been merging surprisingly well. It's nice to paint again.

We meet at a poetry reading to exchange canvases. We decided that one painting was finished last night. We then sold it at the reading. It's been a long time since I sold a painting. Amazing.

The canvas was very cool. It had a feel of oriental caligraphy mixed with musical notes and a little op-art imagery. It had a red to orange wash for a background layered with silver, black, green and blue handwriting-derived elements with a black black black rectangle in the middle that allowed the three-dimensional surface of the paint underneath to show through like a frieze.

Now, I just have to build the studio in the basement, get and agent, quit my job and do this stuff full time.
