When I was at the poetry slam last year, I was walking along next to another poet who always seemed very intense and scary. I was told by several people that he was actually very personable and friendly.

Somehow the topic of stress came up in the conversation around me, and I turned to the poet next to me and said, "Well, a little stress never hurt anyone."

He replied, "Yeah, it just kills you." Then he turned away from me and just looked forward with the same angry face he always wears.

That was the first and only time I ever spoke to him.
